One of the things that always impressed me (other than the music itself) was the amazing things they could pull off with only 3 band members.

In light of that, how about a 3rd point in the argument for Rush's greatness?

This song, of course, features one of the best intros of all time.

But ... the best band ever?

I'm not so sure I can feel you there, brother!

There's no question Top 10 ... *maybe* top 5, but I'd have to be convinced.

Gunny,

then what about 4th and 5th points.

4th- they have been together since 1974 and since 1975 with this same line up. Also have you ever heard of them having a big fight amongst themselves? In a smaller amount of time Van Halen has gone through about 4 lead singers and now other parts of the band are gone. Most bands do nto last as long as Rush with the same line up.

5th- Each of the members of Rush is in the top 50 of the best rock musicians that have played their instruments.

Alex Lifeson- guitar- is ranked the lowest of the 3 but he is in most top 50 lists of those who know.

Geddy Lee- Bass- could be a top ten on bass. He is awesome. And just to know that he sings also and does most of the keyboard stuff . . . well he is just amazing.

Neil Peart - Percussion- notice percussion not drums. he is critically aclaimed by most as the #1 rock drummer of all time. Other come close but Peart is almost always #1 for rock drummers. and of lists of just drummers he is often in the top 5. buddy Rich- jazz drummer- is ahead of him often but I think Neil is the best. Neil Peart never really overplays although he is incredible. too many drummers nowadays over play. They hit whatever is going to make the most noise. Peart was musical. His solos were musical. They did not just showcase how fast and how hard he could hit a drum. Moon, bohnam, and the Drummers from Dream theater (can't spell his name) and Tool are the closest to peart for me. however none of them match Pearts consistency and just plain musicality.

So Gunny Rush is the best for those who know music best.
